Open for Lunch and Dinner Monday to Sunday

The Cherwell Boat House is without a doubt one of the most unique restaurants in the UK. Alongside the main restaurant serving modern English cuisine, it boasts a bar with a large, raised outdoor terrace and, in true Oxfordian style, a punt station. As a result of its stunning riverside location, combined with a mouth-watering menu full of top English dishes, it draws clientele from far and wide, including tourists, students and locals alike.

Offering a choice of an à la carte or set menu, (priced at £22.50 for a three course lunch or £24.50 for dinner), the dishes include a wide range of culinary delights from rump of salt marsh lamb to Pea, English asparagus and parmesan risotto, followed by Baileys baked Alaska or cherry soup, rose sorbet!

But this restaurant is the choice of patrons for whom the wine in the glass is as important to them as the food on their plate. Owned now for a number of years by Anthony Verdin, of Fields Morris and Verdin notoriety, the wine list represents a meeting of minds with Jasper Morris MW. In 2006, it was rated 11th in the UK by Neville Buck in the Top UK Restaurant Wine Lists. It is noted for stocking exceptionally rare and older vintages, yet offering the customer great value for money. The wine list is managed by Cherwell Boat House sommelier and German wine fan, Frederika Adam.

By the glass, the list offers a 2004 Riesling Schieferterrassen Heyman Löwenstein, Mosel. The Cherwell Boathouse also serves the following:

2005 Riesling Kabinett Urziger Wurzgarten, Alfred Merkelbach £18.00
2003 Riesling Kabinett Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Selbach-Oster £22.00
2001 Riesling Spätlese Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Selbach-Oster £27.00
2004 Riesling Kabinett Wehlener Sonnenuhr, J.J. Prüm £25.00
2004 Riesling Spätlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr, J.J. Prüm £32.00
1997 Riesling Auslese Herrenberg, von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser £34.00
2002 Riesling Kabinett Scharzhofberger, Egon Müller, Magnum £68.00

Why not pay a visit to The Cherwell Boat House this summer and enjoy a bottle of German Riesling on the terrace with friends before hiring a punt to journey up river for a spectacular tour through the historical city of Oxford.
