Fire Mountain Riesling

Zimmermann-Graeff & Müller

Peter Griebeler, the dynamic, young winemaker at ZGM is really shaking things up down at this winery. He is literally getting the best of both worlds by applying new international techniques and combining them with Germany’s unique conditions to produce modern, exciting and unusual wines. It’s a big responsibility to be head winemaker but Thierry has plenty of experience as well as talent and flair.

"I enjoy being able to experiment here, always trying to achieve something a bit different but that I can reproduce with consistency, year after year" says Thierry of his brand, Fire Mountain.

The Mosel valley has a very windy river running through the middle of it. The slopes down to the river are among the steepest in the world, some at a 70 degree gradient, which are excellent for the vines though they take a lot of dedication to work. Virtually all the work is done by hand and very demanding, but at least the views are amazing!

The wines from this area are modern and refreshing and take on wonderful fragrances such as spring blossoms, apples and limes. They often have a hint of effervescence – particularly useful for ZGM who are among the top 10 sekt (sparkling wine) producers in Germany.
Fire Mountain is available in Morrisons, Booths & Somerfield for £3.99
